24 (not the TV show)

Very little news to report today. We are all still tired from waterfalls and beaches.

We made our final trip to the farmers’ market and restrained ourselves from buying more of their fresh and interesting produce than we can eat in a week. We have gotten to know many of the vendors, and it was a little sad to see them for the last time.

S and S played with Donne for a while, and I used wi-fi to upload the three videos linked in the post below this one. We headed for home, but decided to take a detour. Most of the way up our mountain, just before we turn off on the road to Casa Miramar, the “main” road continues the rest of the way up the hill. We know from the proprietor of the Italian place we ate at a few weeks ago that the spot up there is called, appropriately, Buena Vista (Good View). The road climbs another ¼ mile and ends at another house, but right before that, and directly above our house is an open area with an even more commanding view of the Whale’s Tail, Ballena Bay, and Uvita.

There are lots of home sites carved out all over the hillside, and a road (more of a dirt track) that leads back down in a different direction. We coaxed the Mighty Terios into following it, and after a while ended up in a whole different part of the mountain, where a hotel called Whales and Dolphins is located. We had seen the signs but never investigated. There are also a bunch of fancy condos, and a few estates, including this one, which may be the secret property of Amy’s cousin..

We followed the road all the way back down, ending on the hard road just a ¼ mile north of our road, and made the climb all over again. After that it was just pool time and dinner, and with just one power outage so far, it’s bed time.

Sarah has acclimated very well here, and has really enjoyed her experience. She’s at that in-between stage an almost-9 year old reaches. She plays like a little girl with Samuel in the pool, squealing and chasing, and making up games and activities. But then this evening, she played a whole game of Monopoly with me, dealing very maturely with her money, buying and selling, and reasoning out what her best choices are. It’s incredible watching her grow and grow up. This trip has really broadened her horizons (and Samuels) and I know she will remember it for the many years to come.

In the absence of news, here are a few pics that were overlooked in the past few days:

Off to church in the morning. Adios!

  2. You must be running out of side trips of interest. You've done so much! I count nine days 'til I see you guys. Guess it was tilapia fishing you were doing. Got an idea for your journal when you get home. We're off to Schroon for some boating today. Keep 'em coming!
